Computer Discount of New Jersey Inc./Radio Shack was founded in 1978 by Joseph and Carolyn Russo. The original location was the site of the present Hudson City Bank in the West Milford Mall Shopping Center.
Major additions to the store were made in 1979 and Computer Discount/Radio Shack (trading as Computer Discount of America) became one of the largest mail-order computer retailers in the US. In 1987 Computer Discount of New Jersey Inc. sold it's mail order operations and directed all of it's efforts toward development of the present 3,200 square foot retail store located in downtown West Milford, N.J. In August 1993, Computer Discount/Radio Shack became the oldest retail computer store in New Jersey and has continued to sell computers and related electronics for longer than any independent retail computer store in New Jersey.
Computer Discount/Radio Shack has succeeded by keeping its product lines focused and its marketing strategy simple. It's "PATRIOT" line of computers are assembled and tested in West Milford using the highest quality "Open Architecture" parts and are 100% upgradeable. It's retail consumer electronics products are supplied by Radio Shack, the largest electronics retailer in the world, with over 5000 retails stores and dealers situated throughout the world.
Computer Discount of New Jersey/Radio Shack is rapidly growing, capturing substantial market share in the areas of Networking, Internet server solutions, Computer service and support, Training, Point of Sale systems, DSS Satellite TV, home video and related services.
